Agora Portals: A UNICEF-Recognized Child Rights Reference Centre
- Awards and recognitions
At Agora Portals International School, education goes beyond academic knowledge. Since our opening, we have made a strong commitment to childhood, working to protect, empower, and motivate every child.
This dedication has led to our recognition by UNICEF as a Child Rights and Global Citizenship Reference Centre (Level 1). This year, we have taken another step forward and achieved Level 2, a distinction that reflects our continuous improvement, our capacity for innovation, and reinforces our mission to shape responsible and compassionate citizens.
A safe environment for learning and growth
Safeguarding and well-being are fundamental pillars of our educational model because we know that a child who feels safe is a child who can learn, dream, and grow to their full potential. This is made possible by our team of dedicated professionals who work daily to ensure a secure environment where our students can express themselves with confidence, knowing that their rights are respected and protected.
The roles of the Heads of Pastoral at each educational stage and the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) are key in promoting coexistence, well-being, and student protection. Through the Tutorial Action Plan, teachers, supported by the Psychopedagogical Guidance Department, address essential topics related to children's and youth rights with students. Through the Student Council, we give students a voice and encourage their active participation in building a school community based on respect and inclusion.
Throughout the year, we promote initiatives that encourage reflection and action, such as:
- World Children's Day (November 20th): A day when families, teachers, and students come together to raise awareness of children's rights worldwide.
- Odd Socks Day: A campaign that celebrates diversity and reminds us of the importance of respect and inclusion.
- UNICEF’s “Every Drop Counts” Charity Run: An event that combines sports and solidarity, promoting social commitment from an early age.
- Awareness projects: 5th-grade Primary students visit other classes, from Early Years to 1st year of Secondary School, to talk about children's rights and become agents of change.
- School Peace Day: A day dedicated to promoting values such as coexistence, respect, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Additionally, throughout the academic year, we organize various workshops in collaboration with organizations such as the Guardia Civil, focusing on protection against risks and violence, fostering a school environment inspired by children's rights. This approach is also integrated into our units of inquiry and is part of the curriculum in different subjects, embedding values of respect, justice, and equity into daily learning.
Our commitment to children is not only reflected in our actions within the school but also in our collaboration with UNICEF on research aimed at developing preventive measures and interventions to support children's and youth rights. Currently, we are participating in data collection on young people's use of technology, which will provide valuable insights into our educational community and help us design specific actions in this area.
At Agora Portals, we strive to ensure that every child feels heard, valued, and safe, providing them with the tools they need to make a difference in the world. Being one of 258 reference centres in Spain and one of 10 in the Balearic Islands is both an honor and a responsibility that we renew every day.
Educating in values is our mission and our way of contributing to a better future, shaping individuals who can change the world.
